Martial Arts

OVERVIEW

Martial arts is a complete workout. It provides stamina, strength, flexibility, coordination, and balance.  The body becomes stronger and more capable. Consistent training not only conditions the mind and body to fight back in a violent situation (self defense), but also helps the body fight disease, stay flexible, strong and active as people age. Martial arts provides stress relief and ways to release pent up energy. Martial arts helps to develop confidence, discipline, focus and awareness, to make friends, and to improve character. Important values and principles can be learned, such as hard work, dedication, and perseverance, as well as the importance of maintaining personal relationships.

JIU-JITSU:

Jiu-jitsu is a modern martial arts discipline based on ancient roots. It is predominantly ground-based, using principles like leverage, angles, pressure, and timing, to achieve a non-violent submission of the opponent.

CAPOEIRA:

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art developed in the beginning of the 16th century.  It combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music. It is known for its acrobatic and complex maneuvers, often involving hands on the ground and inverted kicks.

Class Advancement:

Advancement may occur at any time, but on average students are expected to remain in a level for a minimum of one year. Your child may not be promoted every year. Our primary concern is that a student be placed in a level that is appropriate to his or her skill level and physical strength. If the child is promoted too soon, then he or she will miss some very valuable training.

These children also struggle in the next level, which is unnecessary and could result in injury. A student who carefully develops his or her technique early in the curriculum will find advancement in later years to be smoother and more rewarding. LCA is against burdening their students with expectations and responsibilities that they are not ready to handle.
